Are there nice LACs in the Northeast where there is a more mellow academic vibe in terms of rigor, workload, grading etc,but are still considered respectable?
Clark
DO yes, I agree, Clark. And Conn College. Bates is pretty intense in spite of being non traditional.
Their brand has been progressive, egalitarian and social justicy for years, and have been test optional for a long time. I think we agree that Bates is more similar than different to the other elite small colleges. Maybe a little less diverse racially because of the location and economically because they have a relatively low (but still respectable.) endowment. Definitely a challenging academic experience with many bright, well-prepared students. I wouldn’t go there for a a mellow academic vibe.
