Lewis is a failed HS and a lot of time, money, and resources has been poured into Lewis over the past 5 years, with no improvement. Now they want to move high SES, non-FARMS students to come in to help fix the school?  Lewis is an FCPS problem, expecting good students from stable families to come in save the school is an interesting Hail Mary by Dr Reid. No one overbid for a house in West Springfield, we bought in a stable district with great schools. Lewis has been mismanaged by years, including appointing a Principal and nominating him as Principal of the Year, for no accomplishment. Why was that? Enormous amounts of money, resources, staff, and trial programs have been poured into Lewis, with no results. Nearby Hayfield HS and Edison HS have a number of out of state and out of district students, no one is focused on that issue either. There are 4 other HS's closer to West Springfield, but somehow bussing West Springfield students through the Mixing Bowl during morning and evening rush hours and requiring parents and student drivers to move through that same traffic nightmare is going to help solve what issue? The traffic and bussing issue should have made this a nonstarter from the get go. WS students will now spend 1+hour commuting each way for Dr Reid's equity experiment.

Hopefully, they relieve Chantilly and Centreville as part of this first round of boundary changes. There are 100s of seats in Herndon that need to be used rather than spending 200 million to make a mega school in Centreville with a projected declining enrollment.

You are spreading misinformation.  The Centreville expansion is still in the latest CIP, which this School Board approved. So is the Dunn Loring project, for which there is less need.

The new policy is a boundary policy.  It's not a policy on capital improvements.

It would be crazy if board members like Dunne, McDaniel, and Lady - all of whom are zoned for schools that were recently expanded - were to invoke the boundary change policy as a basis to avoid making appropriate investments in Centreville and other schools scheduled for renovation.

If they really want to show they care about spending money wisely, the first thing they should kill is the ridiculous Dunn Loring ES project, which is a complete waste of money.  Investing in Centreville HS is not.  [/quote]
It would not be crazy at all as capital improvements and boundary policies are intrinsically linked by their focus on enrollment and capacity. What a silly statement.

Centreville enrollment is declining but they are overcrowded now along with Chantilly and there are seats sitting in Herndon. No need to expand; just renovate and save a lot of money. And in the meantime, just shift the boundaries and provide relief with the same sense of urgency some discussed the need to enroll more students as Louis.[/quote]

Centreville is still above capacity as is Chantilly, which unlike Herndon, is nearby.  Expanding Centreville to accommodate both its current population and provide relief to Chantilly makes more sense than what you've proposed.  Herndon can take kids from Westfield and Langley, if needed.  Before that happens, there needs to be much more focus on the accuracy of the Herndon projections.

So you want kids to wait an 4-5 years for an expansion to meet the needs of the declining populations of Chantilly and Centreville. That literally doesn’t make sense. The project is done and now there is a bunch of empty seats.
