President Obama is reportedly close to Biden and speaks to him often. He would know if Biden was in decline to the point where he couldn't win. Why would President Obama be at a fundraiser a few weeks ago if this were the case? And now suddenly trying to take him down? No. I don't believe it. Clooney wouldn't have regular contact with Biden to that extent and may have genuinely been caught of guard about his mental decline thus the op-ed afterwards.[/quote]

NP. Of course Obama is aware of Biden's decline. This is why Obama speaks to Biden's staff on a day-to-day basis. There is no use speaking to Biden himself, except in very important matters.

Obama was at the fundraiser because he lives in Los Angeles, and this was a big event.
