We took family vacations in the summer, and both of my kids had part-time jobs starting at age 15. Kids need to learn the value of money. They are now both successful and own their own homes. However, if they would have needed to move home to save money for a down payment or complete their grad degrees, I would have had no problem with it. But, I would want to discuss a timeline. Housing has gotten crazy expensive, so I would definitely want to help if I had kids graduating college now.
+1. I have no issue with an adult child, who was independent and successful in college, moving back home to work and save money. I would have expectations on household chores and contributions, but otherwise would be fine with it. It's a really easy way to "give" them money (free rent) without actually giving them money. And it costs me next to nothing for them to live in a house with plenty of room for them.
