We turned down Columbia for Rice. Less drama.
First, "we" didn't turn down anything: your Rice-bound kid did; and the fact that so many parents can't separate themselves from their children is precisely what's screwing them up. Second, Rice is a great school, but the fact that you're all for "less drama" says something about your privilege and self-interest. And if your child chose Rice for the same reason, well, s/he' s no loss for Columbia.
+1 For every Rice cross-admit who turn down Columbia, there are 10 who turn down Rice for Columbia.
But the Rice kids won’t die of dehydration in a building with running water. The Ivy mirage has been exposed by these pathetic Columbia brats. Get over it.
Columbia admin is worse than NKorea. They called cops on their own students. Screw Columbia.
For good reason. Shame they didn’t call sooner. Now my firm is just waiting on the names of the participants so we can make sure not to hire them.
Nice. Nothing really shows the power imbalance better than this statement. I am glad my kid is not protesting (although she believes that Israel is acting terribly and did march earlier in the year). She (correctly, in my view) determined that she didn't want to get caught up in violence or illegal behaviors. I think the students are allowing a level of poor behavior in these protests but I dont really know how you prevent that. That being said, for those who say these are "coddled snowflakes" with "nothing on the line", see above. They are being blacklisted, their schools are being pressured to not listen to them by wealthy donors, etc. That is not nothing.
It’s not like they knew there was a lot on the line & overcame the fear. Unless, of course, you think the same people who didn’t have the foresight to bring a gluten-free sandwich & a bottle of Evian to an occupation had considered all the high-tech ways future employees could identify them as members of the legendary 47th Whiners Brigade that seized Hamilton Hall in ‘24. Also, if you think the kiddies knew they were risking their futures, I guess you missed the part about how as soon as they learned that not everybody was hailing them as heroes, these valiant warriors started demanding immunity faster than you can say “Hamas enabler.”
