He’s a forced birther and a fascist.
He’s been governor for two years now and things seem to be going pretty well. Where’s the fascist?
“… exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.” Sorry. If he’s a forced birther, supports banning books, supports Trump’s lies about the 2020 election having been stolen, condones discrimination against LGBTQ people… that fits the definition. Sorry that not everyone wants to play along and pretend he’s jolly good fun.
DP. Forced birther: gov learned quickly that Virginians are largely moderate on this matter and backed off of extreme positions. I just looked at the Planned Parenthood site for Virginia and there is a blurb about abortion laws in Virginia, but they do not appear to be any restrictions worse than, say, Japan or France. If Y has an extreme personal opinion on this matter, it is apparent that he recognizes that Virginians differ from that by and large. Banned books: some books do not belong in schools. Pornography in particular. Again, gov had a lot of support here, including this moderate FFX parent. I am a lesbian and believe in teaching inclusivity and that kids of diverse background should have representation in books available to them at schools, but I draw a hard line on pornographic materials, which these books are. For the non pornographic “banned” books requiring parental notification before use in a classroom, I am ok with this too even though I’m ok with my own kids reading pretty much anything. Let’s not forget that our state and Fairfax County in particular are very diverse and include populations that are immigrants, some from backgrounds that are more conservative than ours. Or that have more religious observance. I think it would be more respectful of those families to have some voice in the matter, especially if they cannot afford private schools, which I’m guessing many newer immigrants cannot. Trump’s lies: dunno about this one, lots of Rs went along with Trump, but even if Y did “support” T at some point, I don’t see Gov. Y as part of T’s machine. LGBTQ discrimination: you mean the trans stuff right? People talk about LGBTQ discrimination happening and it is always Trans issues every single time. I hate that we are lumped together like that And I think that the phrase LGBTQ discrimination (when describing challenges to specific transgender agendas) is used to try to get people to become riled up and fearful. Sorry, but I don’t think that my daughter should have to compete with males in her sport. Nor do I think that the science is “settled” about trans kids and we should be affirming their transitions no questions asked, nor should parents who have questions or wish to explore alternative possibilities for their child’s mental health issues be pushed to the side. Again, agree with Y in this. [twitter]Unless he actually tried to get Virginia on a path to ban gay marriage, which I highly highly doubt he would do, I really don’t have a problem. [b] The governor also gets points from me on his two recent vetos: 1. Vetoed Recreational marijuana - he definitely made the right call there. Every time I visit Maryland or DC I see what it could be like if we had lax laws here and I do not want Virginia to become like that. Let’s keep Virginia clean, safe, and productive please. 2. Vetoed Increasing minimum wage to 15: he made the right call on that as well. Obviously, the cost-of-living in Fairfax County is such that it would be nearly impossible to live on $12 an hour. But almost no jobs here actually pay that low because employers know that, and if a job does pay $12 an hour, it’s because it’s a job that does not require a lot of productivity or skill. Retail workers and restaurant are routinely paid from $15-$20 an hour at least. Even my 15 year-old will make $13 an hour this summer doing very very entry level work. I’m just grateful that there are opportunities for teenagers and others trying to grab hold of any entry level job. And if the minimum went to 15, many of those opportunities would dry up, as would many jobs in other parts of Virginia with lower cost of living.
Glenn is an opportunist and a religious nutbag at heart. He punches down on trans kids because it’s what his base wants. If he thought it would get him votes, he’d ban your marriage and take your kids. There’s nothing truly settled about gay marriage in this country. If Dobbs didn’t teach you that, I don’t know what will.
Some would say he’s protecting trans kids from making irreversible decisions as minors.
No. He just wants to f over women and LGBTQ.
Really? How so? Never mind, I'm truly not interested in the lies you choose to tell yourself. DP
Guess you're new to VA? 1) He wants to ban abortion. 2) He wants to hurt LGBTQ kids.
Are you ok? Because while he may personally be against abortion, he's not trying to ban it in VA. And "hurt LGBTQ kids"?? WTAF are you talking about?
He would absolutely going to sign any anti-abortion bill that came across his desk - his words. Don't play coy.
The GOP has loved this winky noddy, “I’m so clever and cool” neckbeard stance lately. On Project 2025, abortion, birth control bans, border policies… they think it’s 2016 and no one knows anything about the modern GOP. I looked up what Youngkin did to “protect kids from making a lifelong mistake.” Half of the programs he canceled were for stuff like suicide prevention. In other words: not protecting kids.
Here’s what actions Youngkin has taken regarding transgender students. You are obviously crazy if you think any of these harms any student. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/ideological-beliefs-youngkin-administration-shares-2023-model-policies-for-schools-treatment-of-transgender-students/3387085/ https://apnews.com/article/virginia-transgender-students-schools-youngkin-ba073a1e8a9286456a7509688f40115b
