This whole Rehoboth thing confuses me to no end. I moved to the DMV area as a young adult and have lived here for 20 years. We have never been even one time. There is no global appeal; I can always find a vacation spot more exciting. Napa, Santa Monica, Key West, Punta Cana, Hawaii, Fiji, Cairns, Maldives, etc…. From my perspective, it seems to appeal to people that are either too poor to travel to world-class destinations or used to be that poor when they were younger and are still returning for nostalgic reasons. Maybe it’s a day-trip thing?
Here’s what you are missing: Dc metro locals have beach houses at the local beaches. We grew up going to these beaches, so we go every year. But we also travel elsewhere. ICYMI: people with beach houses have money and travel to other nice places…like, all the time.
This. If it were the only vacation of the year, I’d go elsewhere. But we go elsewhere for winter break, Spring break, long weekends in winter. During summer we go back and forth to OC to the house and then usually go someplace farther away in summer as well.
