Here’s what you are missing:

Dc metro locals have beach houses at the local beaches. We grew up going to these beaches, so we go every year.

But we also travel elsewhere.

This.  If it were the only vacation of the year, I’d go elsewhere.  But we go elsewhere for winter break,
Spring break, long weekends in winter.  During summer we go back and forth to OC to the house and then usually go someplace farther away in summer as well.  [/quote]
