My child is an athlete who competes internationally. They've missed 15 days so far this year- I had the back and forth with the administration- meanwhile, the teachers are telling me that it's not affecting them in the slightest. Grades are perfect, they are in advanced math and not struggling at all. As they get older and school gets harder, I will be watching for any signs of struggle and we will adjust accordingly. If FCPS wants to take me to court, I am glad to fight that battle.
In your situation it would be extremely, extremely, unlikely, practically 0. It's as the prior poster said, schools are forced by the state to send the threats, even if a kid has 0 school issues and perfect grades. It would only lead to court for actual negligence and poor grades, and even that's unlikely. In fact parental rights are quite strong in the US. Parents are even allowed to "pimp" their children on Instagram without any kind of repercussions, as discussed in this recent horrific nytimes story: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/22/us/instagram-child-influencers.html
