Different poster here.  The part in bold is why I go with my earlier theory I posted a few pages back.  They don't want to win.  This whole campaing is a sham, a sop to their base.  They can't SHOW their base that they don't want to win, they have to look like they are fighting the good fight.  Ryan is WAY too extreme.  IVF would become illegal under his bill.  Freaking IVF????  This guy is going to scare women and scare old people.  Romeny KNOWS that he needs the independents.  No way he is going to get them now.

That's delusional.  At the time they picked Ryan, Romney was within 1 percentage point of Obama nationally, and within striking distance in enough battleground states to plausibly win.  Why on Earth would he throw the election now?  [/quote]
