That being said, please note the following: Western PG has safe charming areas — think Hyattsville / Mt Rainer area (essentially the route 1 corridor). In addition, further out PG as you get towards crofton doesn’t have charm but it has safe, upper middle / middle class areas where parents care and want their kids to do well — think Bowie. The rest of PG is essentially an expensive ghetto where you simply don’t want to live if you value safety, community, education, etc.

The issue with the charming areas like Route 1 corridor and Bowie for example,  however, is that crime spillover, and a certain mentality has caused it to feel a little like living on the edge of danger. There are kids from decent backgrounds who get involved in gangs etc to “fit in” or “prove themselves” for example. That’s not to say this can’t happen in NoVa or Western MoCo, but it’s not comparable.

As someone who lived in PG, and then moved to MoCo, and then to NoVa where I am now, do yourself a favor and move straight to NoVa and don’t look back.

There are so many things wrong in this post...

There are plenty of nice areas of PG beyond Rt 1 and Bowie.  Greenbelt, Berwyn, Cheverly, Glenarden, Mitchellville, Laurel, etc.  Drive through on a nice Saturday afternoon and you can get the vibe of a neighborhood.
