Pinto is smart, sensible and really stands up for the interests of residents. I think she'd be a great mayor. At the Gallery Place task force kick-off, she kept circling back to the key issue. We need to make the city safe again if we expect people to visit and invest. So simple but so true. Tonight she listened and supported residents trying to block a cannabis shop from opening across the street from two schools!
I don’t get the love for Pinto. I’m not saying she’s horrible but I think she comes across as competent and tough on crime only in contrast to the other councilmembers. The bar is pretty low for that group. I’ve reached out to Pinto’s office 3-4 times about things—including most recently the cannabis shop you mention (an ANC meeting that she couldn’t even bother to attend in person so she joined by zoom from a mile away). I’ve never received a response from her office. Never. Don’t even get me started on her “crime walks.” She is Racine’s protege so how tough on crime is she really? And for a city that’s so quick to call out transplants, she has literally been here for what, 5 years? Doesn’t anyone recall the carpetbagger complaints about her? I agree that she’s not as bad as some of the others on the council, but I’m not sold on believing she’s the next big thing.
