OP, I say this with the kindest of intentions, but you might want to rethink "keeping her hopes up." It is far better to be clear-eyed and realistic about where things may be headed, and affirm that you think she is smart and wonderful and will thrive wherever she lands. My DD heard from a safety first and deliberately spent hours pouring over the website and YouTube videos and social media after she got accepted so that she would fall in love with it and feel excited about it, just in case nothing else worked out. And you know what, she did! She ended up getting into one of her top choices, but it really kept her spirits up while she waited.
NP and I could not agree more with this. My kid got rejected from his ED school (which was not a surprise, but of course it was still a disappointment), and we’ve really been focusing on the fact that he has some very attractive options from EA, regardless of what happens with the rest of his applications. He is particularly excited about getting top merit from one of the EA schools, something that won’t happen with his remaining schools, and is focusing on how great it would be to have that money saved for grad school. Obviously he will still be bummed if he doesn’t get into his remaining top choices (a distinct possibility!), but he is not pinning all of his hopes on those decisions.
That is the problem is very hard to predict where it is possible to get accepted and am also advising DD may be to add 2 more schools just in case.
