Roster size has nothing to do with whether or not a coach plays any/all subs. It just means there are more subs. Some coaches play to win and no subs get in. Others play everyone and hope to win.

I know of coach who wanted to bring kids to a tournament to be something like reserve players. They were going with no expectation of playing, but they could wear their uniform on the sidelines and would be considered part of the team if they won. One girl accepted this roll and stood on the sidelines the entire time.

I also know of teams hit with injuries or sickness where having a large roster was good because they still had a couple of subs. Teams with small rosters hit with injuries or sickness end up with 1 sub, which is not great.

This all goes back to finding the right team for your kid. One family will sing the praises of a club/coach and another will want to drag them through the mud. What works for one family doesn’t work for all families. [/quote]
