Bates is in Lewiston/Auburn which has historically been a depressed (former mill towns no real industry - think smaller version of Lowell Massachusetts)  and not super safe area. I’m not sure if that’s still the case FWIW. [b]Brunswick, where Bowdoin is located, is safer but pretty depressing in my opinion. [/b]Then again, I went to Williams and western Massachusetts can be pretty depressing. Hamilton is in the middle of nowhere and that’s not fun. Most selective liberal arts schools have cons when it comes to location. [/quote]
