Armored vehicles are available in the US, but are extraordinarily expensive, handle differently than unarmored vehicles, and have a shorter than normal service life. Hence, they remain the province of the rich and politically powerful. The “shotgun in the door” idea is the stuff of poorly researched novels; while it is not unheard of for an armored vehicle to have gunports, mounting a shotgun inside a vehicle door would be next to impossible because of the length of the receiver, and at the likely range any such contraption might be used the shotgun pattern would not expand to any meaningful degree anyway. The aftermarket for a center console lockbox is very strong. My friend just got one installed in his new Tacoma for transporting his handgun. Looks really nice, very secure. Basically impossible for someone to break into quickly. [/quote]
