No. You don’t understand the assignment. Psychology has been around longer than the Roman Empire But… thinking about your ex best friend is like the Roman Empire. Ffs.
I was different PP sorry and forgot to clarify. Neither examples are good equivalents for thinking about the Roman Empire - that was the assignment right?
No the assignment is what do women think about more often than you could ever imagine.
Shouldn’t it be what women think about far, far more than men can imagine? One answer might be how to avoid sexual assault.
This. Personal safety, sexual harassment, sexual assault. How much of our mind space is devoted to these subjects and how much of our lives we adjust because of these concerns.
It was more fun to consider empires but when it comes down to actual mental attention, yes, avoiding predatorial men is up there.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Omg! The amount of time I literally think of this… so much.
As a suburban mother of 2, I can tell you that the amount of time I think about this is virtually zero. At this stage of life, I'm no longer living in sketchy areas or hanging around with sketchy friends or doing sketchy things. If you think about your personal safety so much, maybe you need to reevaluate where you are and what you are doing.
You must be a judgy, myopic person. It has nothing to do with sketchy friends or sketchy things. Maybe you just live a very circumscribed, home-bound suburban mom existence. You don't ever think about whether it's too dark to go for a run, whether to wear your earbuds or not, whether you should stay late at work because the building or the metro train will be empty, whether running errands after working out in your gym clothes is going to subject you to random stares or comments, how early you should return from your moms' night out gathering, etc., etc. Not every woman has your limited life. Some women live by themselves, have to work odd hours or night shifts, take public transportation, work at a place where the parking garage is dark and empties after a certain hour, work in male-centric industries prone to harassment...
When I worked in DC, I occasionally thought about those things, although not to the extent that you seem to. I no longer work in DC, in part because of the significant increase in crime. I plan so that I don't worry about personal safety all the time. If you are in fear of your personal safety daily, then it's time to move. There are lots of places to live, lots of jobs. Make choices. Fix problems, don't just live in fear. We've got one life, this is it. How do you want it to be?
