You invited them to come one day during the day but only for dinner? That makes no sense. The only rude thing is helping themselves to your bed.
They showed up after lunch. I made it clear we were sharing only dinner. I wasn’t going to cook them breakfast and lunch.
How? “Hey Suzy! Would your family like to join us at the cabin on Saturday? By Saturday I just mean the afternoon. You should arrive after lunch, and to be clear, I am only providing dinner.” Nice invite. ICYMI: when you host, you host. That means ample food, drinks, activities, and fun. If I visit someone, I typically feed my kids something ahead of time…mostly in case they serve something weird. And while I always bring a hostess gift that is edible, I would never show up with groceries if I’m only someplace for 1/2 a day. PS - kids get tired and it’s NBD to put them down in a quiet bedroom. I would ask first.
You’re rude. You have no idea how the invitation was worded. I’ll share what I experienced. Dh and I rent a beach house every year 2 hours away. I had reconnected with an old friend and invited her and her dh to come Friday-Sunday. They agree and left a msg using an app that leaves a msg and ensures the phone doesn’t ring to say they are extending their stay thru Wednesday and are bringing their adult daughter I barely know. I am uncomfortable with confrontation but called friend to say we couldn’t accommodate her daughter and the extended time didn’t work for us. The b admitted that they were being rude they just didn’t think I’d actually say no. People are rude. I would have been bothered by every bit of it.
