Why should MCPS be in the business of adopting a Covid policy separate from the CDC? Do you really think the district that has bungled up nearly everything else can get health policy better?
The cdc is not considering large high schools with poor air quality and no ability to distance.
My response was more to the huge number of people on this thread who think the CDC guidance of 5 days out of school (really 6) and 5 additional days masking is too little.
Sorry, meant too much!
I don’t have a problem with the policy. If you’re actually sick enough from covid to require medical treatment, then you’re probably going to want to stay home for 5 days. But it’s quite rare to require medical treatment for covid— particularly for kids. And in that case, this policy just says 24 hours without a fever. And for what it’s worth, I’ve never thought that MCPS should blindly follow CDC advice. The CDC has one job, public health. It isn’t the CDC’s job to consider and balance the educational effects of long absences (or masks, or school closures, etc.) MCPS and the school board generally should have been viewing the CDC recommendations as conservative measures made with little regard for education and kids, and accepted risks when confronted with conflicting equities.
