Speculation is that Clemson, FSU, Virginia Tech, and Miami want to move to the SEC. Maybe UNC and Virginia to the more academically minded Big Ten Conference. Maybe NC State to the SEC.

ACC Athletic Commissioner Jim Phillips (former long-time athletics director at Northwestern University) has put his North Carolina home up for sale for $2.5 million despite recently agreeing to a 3 year extension of his ACC contract.

IF the ACC folds, then Notre Dame comes into play. ND is more compatible with the Big Ten Conference than with the SEC regarding travel distances, traditional rivalry opponents, and academics. Also, Notre Dame joined the AAU in June of this year which is a "requirement" for Big Ten membership (although an exception would have been made for Notre Dame due to the value of ND's football program and other compatible attributes regarding location, academics, and traditional rivalries with Big Ten Conference members.[/quote]
