"My child can walk. I'm confused by your assertion that I'm failing my child by choosing a lower paying job that I love. A lot of people in this country live on less. Do you fault those who can't earn more and decide to have children? I can't imagine working 60 or 70 hours a week at a law firm and still managing my parenting duties. I suppose we all have different priorities. " I'm surprised you're proud of living on 45K. My secretary makes 66K and she can certainly manage her parenting duties even while working 40 hours a week. Do you live in the DC metro area, or someplace much cheaper?
It's not that I'm proud of my income. I'm just not ashamed or unhappy with my choice, which is what you seem to expect. I have no desire to apologize to you, the random internet stranger, for my choices in life. My original post was to point out that some of the assumptions about us lower income folks can be flat out wrong. I live and work in the DC metro area.
Do you have children? Do you own a home? Do you ever hope to retire?
