The man - despite being homeless - was well-kept and did nothing out of the ordinary until he randomly assaulted the woman. They both have Turkish names, so I'm wondering if they somehow knew each other or if he had been stalking her. There was no way for a Good Samaritan to intervene, as there was no hint that the assailant would lash out at the woman.
He does not look homeless. Look a his sparkling white shoes. He is fit. Something missing from this story.
That is 2023 homeless. He has free housing, new set of free clothes, and even a free latte to sip before engaging in violence. There are legions of volunteers handing out clothes/food and activists to provide free legal services and housing. No one forces meds, work, etc though and definitely no well funded activists to help the victims.
You can’t force meds. Most of these people are psychiatric cases and need them for sure though. But until we decide it’s ok to arrest and hospitalize them, what’s the answer? Most of these people are either severely mentally ill, intellectually challenged, or addicts. We need state psychiatric hospitals and permission to pick up and retain them. The tents in our Capitol are an embarrassment to America. I wish someone would try to solve the problem but it seems like no one cares to address more than the meals and cold weather cover: just the simple things.
