This. I don't blame police. Theft under $1,500 is a misdemeanor in MD. No weapons were used, and no one was hurt. The perps left. This is not considered a "priority" call because it's a misdemeanor theft of property with no injuries. Meanwhile, they did have a priority call (suicidal teen) where life was at risk.

And let's say they were caught. Will the prosecutor actually press charges? Will they actually get locked up? Not over a misdemeanor theft charge.

Then, how would you feel as a cop if Council members want to do things like limit police's ability to perform traffic stops, like Jawando and Mink propose:

Traffic stops are a great way to get guns and drugs off the street. Jawando claims too many people of certain races are getting arrested due to this... without ever commenting about if these arrests were warranted (they were, or MCPD would be sued for false arrest).

Yes, there is a lack of diversity and equity in who police arrest, but that's because there's a lack of equity and diversity in who commits crimes. Maybe we should teach elderly Asian females how to hotwire a car![/quote]
