Would love to see an update here. That said, I’m surprised the OP didn’t address in the moment. If the assistant said that to me about my child my natural response, if I truly thought my child had a behaviour problem - would have been - Wait, what? My child? - and gotten clarification rather than let it go. In any instance, whether the TA was talking about her child or another child I think not was a bit unprofessional to “name names” to the parent. This is something the director should have addressed with the problem child parents well in advance.
Meant - if I truly through my child DID NOT HAVE a behaviour problem… I would have been caught off guard and naturally had a follow up question.
Not PP, and I would absolutely follow-up, but there are a number of reasons I may not in the moment- partly because I don’t think great on my feet, especially when caught off guard, and I need a moment (or several) to gather my thoughts. Second, we are actually discouraged from lengthy conversations at pickup/drop off because there is a lot going on. Third, OP was essentially being told a rumor about a different person- the rumor may in fact be true, but the appropriate person to talk to this about may not be the TA. Since the teacher had already departed, reaching out to the director is appropriate.
