I went to a public high school where most kids went to college and they would never have done this there. I think it's really tacky. For the kids who are really enthusiastic about their college plans, there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate that. And people find out where kids are going. But obviously for kids who are disappointed or who don't know if they can put the money together or who might not go to college or might do community college first or just do community college... the "where are you going?" question can be awkward and the feeling of being surrounded by happy college bound students stressful. Like the upside is very limited and the downside is very pronounced.
+1. On the upside, I think most teens ignore most spirit days. I definitely did not have any sway from my school….those branded shirts were expensive! I think the sweatshirts were $40 in 1980s money (full days wages at my minimum wage job)—I wasn’t wasting money on that!
