For people who want to quash acceptance of lgbtq+, can you give me one example in history when a society extended acceptance and equal rights to a group of citizens that wasn’t eventually universally hailed as the just and moral thing to do? Our human history is littered with examples of exclusion, bigotry, sexism, and racism toward groups of people. Each time, there were many people who vehemently turned to violence, used legislative and judicial power, and tried their best to resist change. Native Americans, Black Americans, Irish Americans, Eastern Europeans, Asian Americans, Latinos - all of these people were not given equal rights/ discriminated against immigrating to the US. Laws against interracial marriage, laws preventing women from voting, apartheid, Jim Crow laws, discrimination against disabled people - people tried hard to keep all of these with the same excuses I read on these forums. So give me an example of when we were glad we didn’t extend acceptance to a marginalized group or when we regretted doing so. Or do you think we would be better off with laws supporting discrimination against the groups above? Because if you had been around in those days, I’m sure you would have protested the equal rights amendment and the women’s voting act as well.
