Vandy campus tour was such a disappointment. Bland campus, even blander environs.
Yeahhh. That's exactly how the public views Nashville. So 'bland' W&L is one of the most isolated campuses I've ever seen. Wake is safe and sedate and in the equivalent of McLean. While on campus, Wake, Vandy and Davidson look so similar. Vandy has a giant medical center attached to campus -- giant -- and an arterial road abutting campus.
"Wake is safe and sedate" = Is this accurate ? Although not a dangerous campus, WFU has had crime on campus from non-students. Doesn't WFU have guarded gates ? Again, not suggesting that WFU campus is unsafe, just that it is not fairly labeled as "safe and sedate".
the gates went up while I was there in the mid-90s. It happened because a student was held hostage in her dorm room by a drug dealer and assaulted. The drug dealer was in the wrong place - he was there for a different student who had screwed him out of money, iirc. It was quite shocking because the campus was already fairly secluded. We also had electronic keycards on all dorms and lounges on campus. I very, very rarely felt unsafe on campus. I did work in the law library sometimes until late at night, and I would call the campus ride people to come pick me up to drive me to my dorm at that point, but again, it is already a fairly secluded and self contained campus. Now, I haven't been there since all the new construction that expanded the size of the student body. That said, the location is not in the city, so any crime is likely either student on student OR guests of students.
