Many kids turn into picky eaters when the go to elementary school. They see other kids eating crappy food and they want to do the same. The parents cave and start serving them processed food and lots of sweets. They are probably the same parents that bring Gatorade and Doritos for their five-year old’s after game snacks.
My kid was picky before elementary but the junk food she sees at school hasn’t helped. I don’t give in — she has asked me a million times to send in bag chips and cookies and processed junk like some of the other kids have, and I refuse. But it also doesn’t help her expand her eating, seeing that all the time. They also give them so much candy at school! She comes home with chocolate and lollipops all the time. But despite feeding her healthy food and no junk, my kid is still picky. People do not understand how stressful it is as a parent. There are times when my kid is hungry but struggles to find anything she wants to eat. Restaurants and going to friends houses is hard, traveling to visit family is hard. Getting judged by people who are convinced my kids picky eating is my fault is also hard.
