- Minneapolis
- Raleigh
- Richmond
- Portland ME
- Tucson

smaller/college cities with lower COL and a surprisingly lively cultural scene:
- Greenville SC
- Asheville NC
- Burlington VT
- Newburgh/Beacon NY
- New Haven CT
