Not to derail the thread, but I don’t understand this position at all. Public policy - including tipping regulations - should be set in line with the public interest, not the preferences of a small section of the population. I am all for helping the working poor, but there are much more efficient ways to do than through current tipping practices.[/quote]

It was a city wide referendum that passed and then the Council overturned.  Say what you want about the pros and cons of the policy overruling the people's vote like a red state legislature is just bad democracy.[/quote]

Initiative 77 passed with just 44,000 votes in a June primary, where half the city had left town.  By comparison, Joe Biden got 317,000 votes and Trump 19,000 in the last election.  44,000 votes in a city-wide election in DC is nothing.  Hardly a mandate.  [/quote]
