I’m a hip-hop head and IMHO Kanye is THE best hip-hop producer. Definitely a genius, definitely a prodigy. I don’t even think most of what he says is really that outlandish, we’re just so conditioned to speak around the truth. I’m a huge fan.
All time ever? Or do you mean currently? I think you can probably put him in a top 10 list but I can't fathom putting him above people like Just Blaze, RZA, Easy Mo Bee, Pete Rock, Premier, Da Beatminerz, Trackmasters, Rick Ruben.
Why can’t people just use their names?
Do you also wonder this about Pink, Bono, Halsey, Shania Twain, Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars… I could go on. This is nothing new and there are many reasons artist choose a stage name. Maybe they want to protect their identity, maybe they have a very familiar name, maybe they’re real name doesn't embody the persona they are trying to create, etc.
Because if everyone stuck to their birth names, then we would not have the benefit of some great talent. ✨ Imagine if Norma Jean, Archibald Leach, Frances Gumm or even most recently Carmen Electra had never changed to their stage names?? Tara Fitzpatrick would likely be working the cash register at Walmart!!
Don’t forget Marion Morrison :D
