in a natioanl sense, general public don't give a shit about colleges and its names.
We had 20 Johns in my high school.
Use it in a context and it'll be fine.

Not in a national sense. No pun intended.  Let's stop picking at semantics. It's about clarity. Northwestern has been a nationally known entity,  referred to as NU for short for ages. No one here refers to National University.  Those referring to Northeastern should use neu or something else for clarity's sake.

Right internet is internatinal sense.  People all over the world go to NU.edu and will get confused. 
Northwestern better change its name.

Exept for a few schools like Harvard MIT Standford Yale Princeton, no school has natioanl sense.  
Northeasern is probabaly more konw in the Boston/Northeast area.
