I’m a Germ a phobe. If you pay attention, like I was yesterday at the grill, most people touch raw meat then don’t wash hands. Then touch other things or put the cooked meat back on the raw meat platter. It’s disgusting.
It's crazy to me how many people don't know that this is a problem!
A problem for whom? Presumably if people are getting sick they'd realize it's a problem...but if they aren't getting sick...is it a problem?
Ask your area’s health inspector if the only concern regarding kitchen safety is “did someone get sick.” Ask the same of the scrub nurses in the OR. “Did someone get sick and if not, it’s fine” is…not really a guiding principal for health and safety.
Lol have you ever worked in a kitchen? If you think the worst thing that happens in kitchens is someone not washing their hands right after handling chicken you should never eat at a restaurant, a visit from the health inspector once a year notwithstanding.
This is so true. One of my first jobs was as a waitron in a very nice fairly expensive restaurant. I used to wonder a lot what they diners would think if they saw the fresh catch of the day fish laying on pans in the walk-in and getting stepped on (just on the scales - no biggie!) by kitchen staff all day, or the buckets of scrambled egg mix sitting open in the walk in, or any of the other food handling practices that were pretty nasty. The walk-in and kitchen inspections at the start of Kitchen Nightmares episodes never surprises me because I worked in the restaurant industry for years and I’ve seen it all from greasy spoon to 5 star restaurants. And I’ll reiterate what I previously posted - we have billions of microbes in our bodies and we actually suffer when those populations weaken or die off. People with seriously debilitating gastrointestinal illnesses like IBS, diverticulitis and Crohn’s are being successfully treated by having feces transplants from healthy people. Studies have established that children raised in homes with dogs that go outside and come inside covered in environmental microbes are healthier because they’re ingesting those microbes after petting and hugging their dogs. Children who go to daycare typically have healthier immune systems because they’re exposed to many more microbes in early childhood. Children who eat dirt are typically healthier than children whose mothers hover over them with antibacterial soap wipes and hand sanitizer 24/7. All of you stuck up ladies are chock full of gross microbes. Nothing you can do about it, learn to relax a little.
