If you look at the report, it cites concerning data regarding the performance of public schools, like how the Virginia Board of Education lowered SOL cut scores in 2019 and 2020. But the reactions on this board opposed to the report don't tackle any of the data - they just say "Fake News!" and "I didn't vote for him so I won't believe any piece of data from that administration unless it fits my views!" Interesting how people on the far left and far right have so much in common.
Yes, the score cut offs were lowered but I thought itwas a couple years before that even. But a lot of people don't know anything about that because they had no failing schools in the county. We lived in Alexandria and the year the cut offs were lowered, ACPS heralded it as a major achievement because Jefferson-Houston was finally accredited [with warning]. It was the first time in like 10 years that it had managed to be accredited and it had been very close to going into state receivership. I still think they should have let it. The school isn't doing much better these days either. If you have a kid in a school that it is not overwhelming upper middle class kids, you already know that this report is true. I don't even need to read it to know kids can barely read or do math. I see it every day. Our teachers talk about it. The PTAs talk about it. It's real. It happens. Doesn't matter who sponsored the report, there are way too many kids who are not even learning the basics at their public school.
