Hawaii is one of the least overweight states in the US. I don't know where you were--maybe hanging out with other tourists?--but the people in Hawaii in general are thin, tan, and natural looking (i.e., not a lot of makeup, casual clothes, unfussy hair). A lot of Asian and mixed-race people, too, so not as homogenous as parts of the mainland US.[/quote]
Native Hawaiians are basically PI and they tend to be bigger. -- almost 40% of them are considered obese.

Only 10% of the population in Hawaii are native Hawaiians. The rest are Asian, mixed race, or white. Very few Black.[/quote]
