Since we're apparently calling people idiots, you may wish to rethink your assertion that DNA from the dog crap is the only sample required before we come after you with more much-deserved name-calling.

Anyway, I'm OP, the dog crap was in a public space either on a sidewalk or in a tree box in one of the most densely populated parts of the city, and unless all the dogs from all the households within maybe a mile radius had DNA profiles on file, this just wouldn't give us any information we could use.

I hear that some smaller communities, like suburban home owners' associations, are starting to ask for DNA samples from registered dogs. This seems like a great idea to me, but there's no way it would get enough public support around here and it would really be a huge undertaking.  [/quote]
