Ok, can we please stop with the hatred of dogs and dog owners? Maybe there are less responsible dog owners in the district, but where I live people clean up after their dogs and no one goes around ranting about how evil and gross the animals are. I am sorry that this happened to you OP, people should clean up after their dogs (and contrary to the belief of this forum, a majority of them do!)but the intolerance towards dogs and their owners is just as disgusting. Please don't raise you children to harbor this much contempt towards animals and their owners. Yes poop is gross, I was a preschool teacher I have cleaned up other people's children who were covered in poop! That is kinda the job, kids are messy and they get into messy things-I had a whole class once obsessed with animal poop so we made identification cards- deer poop, raccoon poop (looks surprisingly like dog poop!) when my class stepped in this kind of poop I couldn't to blame the animals or the park ranger for not keeping them off our playground, and definitely not the kids. I sorta would hope moms to be like us preschool teachers, when things get crazy and messy you have to laugh it off and roll with it, instead of going on a dog hating tirade and buying overpriced floor mats.
NP. it isn't about dogs. it's about the lazy, entitled, self-absorbed dog owners who aren't considerate enough to clean up their dog's sh$t. It's about the fact that these stupid dog owners don't care that someone, a child, an adult, another dog, will step onto that dog sh$t. And it's the fact that you can't go a single day without seeing some dog sh$t on the ground. It's disgusting and offensive. You're asking people to laugh off the laziness and offensiveness of these dog owners? There's no parallel with your preschool kids or to raccoons who poop - they don't know better. Same can't be said for those dog owners who don't pick up their dog's sh$t. They're just rude and inconsiderate.
I never said it wasn't rude for dog owners to leave shit, chill out. It is the rage that I am uncomfortable with, it is inconsiderate but it shouldn't affect the way you see and treat EVERY dog owner and every dog. I likened it to my preschool experience because quite literally- shit happens but it doesn't mean you should lose your cool and act like an ass.
OP here. I'm mostly over this last shit, because it was fairly dry and cleaned up relatively easily. The shit that prompted the $130 expenditure was far worse. But Pre-School teacher PP, what you're saying is just wild. It's great that you have a positive attitude toward the excrement of all species. Although, unlike you, I would seriously discourage children from handling it for health reasons, your willingness to cheerfully clean anything that comes out of any orifice from anyone/anything, at anytime, and anywhere is laudable. As a mom, I clean what I must, but when someone deliberately takes advantage of this, I'd say it's quite reasonable to be pissed. I like dogs well enough at a distance and appreciate that they bring joy to a lot of people. But I absolutely do think dog owners simply fail to notice the extent of the biological byproducts their animals produce. The hair, the smells, the sliminess-- there's a lot that they don't notice and what they do notice doesn't bother them. I can't imagine that the poop my kid stepped in wasn't noticed, but I do imagine the owner/ walker thought it wasn't a big deal because dogs are so cute and everyone loves them. I think it's something of a PSA to let dog people know how profoundly gross contact with their animals and the stuff that oozes out of them (or is shed off of them) can be for those of us who choose not to keep animals. Please, all of you, make sure your pets and their biological byproducts don't get "all up in our business" (I like that-- thanks!)
