I’ve heard that women who want boys do so because they have a bad relationship with their mother. True for my SIL (who btw has close female friends). She ended up getting one of each and unfortunately does not have a great relationship with her DD[/quote]

I wanted a boy first because my older sister has always been insanely competitive and controlling of me (my relationship with my mom is great, other than her enabling my sister and not preventing her abuse of me for complicated reasons). I am pregnant with a girl and after some initial disappointment I am extremely excited for her to come. That being said, I am hoping for a boy when we have a second child for the same reasons. Growing up I also just always felt awkward around boys since I didn't have any close males in my life other than my father and grandfathers so I think it will be helpful to my daughter to have a brother.  If I had a son first I would've wanted a daughter second - having one of each is the dream for me. [/quote]
