Yeah, it’s a shame we’ll probably only get to enjoy her for a minute.

Valieva lucked out in that she happened to be born in the right year, 2006, so that she became eligible for these Olympics just as she reached the peak of her powers, pushing aside Russian skaters like Anna Scherbakova and Sasha Trusova, who dominated the last few years, but were born too soon.  Just like Alina Zagitova, born in 2002, became eligible just in time for the 2018 Olympics and won it, pushing aside Russian Evgenia Medvedeva, who had dominated in the years prior, but was born too soon.  We barely heard from Zagitova again.  You can bet some tweener Russian girl skater, born in 2010, will likely make Valieva obsolete by the 2026 Olympics.  No long-termers like Michelle Kwan and Irina Slutskaya anymore.  I wish it wasn’t so.  I would like to enjoy Valieva for years to come, but the system likely won’t let it happen.[/quote]

I don't know what to tell you....Valieva has been around for a number of years if you bothered to follow the junior circuit.  Zagitova is enjoying the rest of her life with multiple endorsements and professional shows.  It is arguably a better setup to work hard until 16 and get out just in time for college and other opportunities. Zagitova is so stinkin' cute!
