Question for horse lady—NP—I’m still not getting why this is a present from your husband. Is it his money? If you’re using your money to buy something that you’ve picked out for yourself, isn’t that a present from you to you? That’s totally okay—I buy myself presents every Christmas! But I don’t tell people they are from my husband. I’m just trying to understand what makes it a present from your husband instead of f just something you bought for yourself.
Because otherwise she’d have to reconcile with the fact that her husband got her nothing. I get it. This is an easy way to reframe your life so it looks a little better. The year you purchase a house after searching for months, “the house!” is your Christmas present! Then it’s the car you drive because it’s new and you needed one this year anyways. On years without a big purchase maybe the vacation you were going to take anyways is your gift. Much like the horse, the vacation you researched yourself, booked for the family, planned and packed for is “your present!” Funny how everyone else also goes on the trip and still gets a gift under the tree…
