BYU make the national finals with 90 percent of their players from Utah and no international players.
...And they play laughably awful soccer. That game was horrendous to watch.
But you watched it, right? Lol I know - I know, WE are awful and the Europeans are awesome....yet....they keep losing to us and their players keep flocking to us. Lol
Really did? What happened at the Olympics? Yes we are just crushing it …lol. Europe keeps losing to us. Europe has the best women soccer in the world and it’s not even close. Go watch Barca women’s play. Both games last night were the same- slow speed of play, low soccer iq and thuggish play. Why would anyone expect more from amateur part time soccer?
Remind me the European team that won gold in the last Olympics? Oh, never mind. It was Canada. BTW, 21 of the 22 players on their Olympic roster played college soccer, and Canada's youth development model is very similar to the US. But let's not allow facts to get in the way of your primary point, which is that Europe has the best women's soccer in the world. Fortunately for this discussion, the top European club teams have played the top NWSL teams in the Women's International Champions Cup in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Those tournament games included Lyon, Barcelona, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and Atletico Madrid. Let's see what happened in those games: In the 2018 tournament, North Carolina Courage won, with Lyon finishing second. In the 2019 tournament, Lyon won, with North Carolina courage finishing second. in the 2021 tournament, Portland Thorns finished first, with Lyon finishing second. BTW, Barcelona finished third. I understand these are small sample sizes, there are only a few actual games played in this tournament, the club teams may not take them that seriously, etc, etc, etc. I also think it is a fair debate whether Europe has the top women's club teams, as Lyon have been historically dominant in Europe, the top English teams are getting better and better with additional money being pumped into the Women's Super League, and Barca is currentlly an excellent club team. However, it has to be noted that the top US women's club teams have won head-to-head in 2 of these 3 tournaments.
Wait a second you are saying a pre season tournament for the European club teams and a in season tournament for the NWSL is a good indication of which teams are the best? How do you think the Washington Spirit would do against Barca right now? They would lose. That Barca team and about 5-6 other European club teams would easily beat Spirit and the USWNT.
