Mis-timed the turkey cooking time, so dinner didn't make it to the table until 8pm. I've never miscalculated this badly before, and I still don't understand why it took so long to cook. I swear our oven just wasn't as hot this year!
Did you thaw it yourself? I think this happens when the store has thawed the bird and you don’t realize that it isn’t completely thawed yet.
In our fridge since Monday. Dry-brined Wednesday AM. I'm positive it was fully thawed. I swear our oven was off yesterday. Even the sides and pie took longer than expected. I had the thermometer in the bird, but I need to heat it up and just have the thermometer in the oven to check if there's something wrong. The only other time I remember something like this is when I was in HS. Our Thanksgiving at my aunt's had gotten a little bigger, and they had a larger turkey. All of the adults, including my older sister who was allowed to drink wine for the first time, got sloshed waiting. I remember my sister spilled red wine on my aunt's white table cloth...and at Christmas my aunt had a red one :) They started cooking two smaller turkeys from then on.
