But they refuse to listen.  if the blue county could have done things like: gotten schools opened at a reasonable time, get the buses to run on time, not over-quarantine kids, or put an emphasis on getting kids reading at level.

It's cute that you think I only know 3 other families.  But for FWIW, you're right.  the dozens of us that I know (mostly upcounty) won't flip this county.  But it MAY be enough to get someone like Blair in the CE seat.  Or, at least, send a message to folks that the super progressive ideas are great, but don't mean squat if you can't get the fundamentals in order, like lowering crime and having an operational school system.

I've been called a racist more in the past 2 years than the rest of my life combined.  And it all boils down to one idea: I'm progressive and believe in equity.  And the most equitable thing we can do is to get children of color reading at grade level.  That will do more for their lives and careers than any anti-racist circle time will ever do.

And in order to do that, you need to have safe schools, where the children feel comfortable learning.  And you need to get them to school on time, every day, i.e. a functioning bus system.

And you need to have teachers with expertise in their respective subject matters.  which means expediting the hiring process.  Or paying subs more.  Etc. Etc.

But instead, the leadership in this county, both on the council and in the school system, focus on the things that make the twitterverse go aflutter.  And the kids (especially at risk children of color) fall further behind[/quote]

Strong take here. Moco resident almost all of my life. Center right politically. Used to have 3 kids in public schools. Now I have none. I have a brother who is a teacher in the moco system. Once he told me to get my kids out, I did. Rotting from within, is how he described it. Too much focus on the wrong things. Sad as the public schools were once probably the single biggest asset the county (and it's residents) had to drive growth. Not anymore.[/quote]

Well to split the difference here (NP), I [b]do believe there is serious dissatisfaction with schools and local politics among Dems.[/b]  And as a liberal SS resident, I am ready to vote Elrich out and much of the school board.  That said, my gripes do not translate into national politics at all; no way I would vote R for any federal office (and probably not Governor).  So even if PPs are right that there is great dissatisfaction at the local level, I do not see that going beyond, well, the local level.  So no Red Wave.  Perhaps a couple county- or state-level "red trickles"...[/quote]

Well certainly the only "Dems" that are foaming at the mouth are on DCUM.  But I basically only know Democrats (and a couple sorta Greens/ "Dems are corporate sell-out" types).  I'd say, very unscientifically, 20-30% are fine with school/local policies and were even perhaps more cautious that MoCo schools about venturing out; 40-50% were dissatisfied with both the closures (certainly by Mar 2021) and the quality of Zoom education, and think the BOE is a sort of a joke, but do not give two eff's about CRT or anything like that; and 20% are actually pissed off, moved to private, want Elrich out, etc.[/quote]
