I got an evite for a party 6 weeks in advance. I can’t plan my life that far out. I had every intention of rsvp-ing closet to the date, but I forgot, and apparently they didn’t send reminders or they went to spam. I realized the party was last weekend—oops.
Shockingly, people send invites early, so that you specifically CAN plan the event into your life. It's actually pretty simple. You decide whether you want to come and RSVP. If yes, you put it on your calendar and make no other conflicting plans. If no, then you are still free to decide that "something better" might come along and you have not antagonized someone who likes you enough to invite you to their event. Do you think that this generation is the first to be busy? Or that somehow your activities are more important than responding to friends? Back in the day, to RSVP, you had to whip out the stationary and write an actual note and mail it.
