Having this algebra 2 thrown in with pre-algebra,algebra, geometry, and stats and modeling, would suggest that the honors kids is the wrong group for this. Better to target accelerated kids to do all this in grades 6-8 or 7-9. The regular honors kids need algebra-geometry-algebra 2 in grades 8-10, not pre-algebra. More advanced kids should have algebra in 6th or 7th.
Citation? You think they.....just won't offer algebra 2 content at all? Wackadoodle....... Honors kids could accelerate and finish essentials earlier. EXACTLY like they finish A-G-A earlier today.
Why did VMPI tell Jay Matthews that non-algebra 2 options should be available for high schoolers if they were intending to put it in grade 10 required for all students? They said in a recent video that pre-algebra was included in the grade 8-10 course blend. With classes intended for the weakest students, it is obvious they will develop more for the pre-algebra side and chop off a lot of the algebra 2. There will probably be some content. Again there is no bright dividing line between what is algebra 1 and what is algebra 2.
The A2 content will go somewhere. And there will be a path for calculus, certainly at least for honors students.
Not without extra learning outside school. That's where the A2 content goes. Typical honors students will be much less likely to take calculus if you have algebra/geometry/algebra 2 blend that doesn't include algebra 2 properly. The accelerated kids will be missing this material as well, but I assume they might be able to catch up. As for the path to calculus, VMPI doesn't even know if this path has 1 year of precalc(webinar) or 1/2 year(infographic, another webinar).
Omg. They are NOT eliminating A2 concepts. Stop making up these ridiculous scenarios.
They're the ones who said Algebra 2 isn't necessary for everyone in high school, that alternative classes should be offered.
That doesn't mean they are completely eliminating the A2 concepts.      Those who want to take it (on the calculus track) will be able to take it.
