The claim about D.S. is that it has run plantations with slaves in Haiti and elsewhere. I have no idea if that is true but if it is, that's the opposite of free market capitalism. The basis of the free market is that each person owns and controls their own property, the most important property being themselves and their labor. [/quote]

You're confusing industry with capitalism. Unless you go to a fully socialist system where the government owns everything, you will always have large global firms, some of which behave badly or commit evil. That's not a slam on the free market. (And, by the way, history tells us that when the government does try to own everything, you don't escape this behavior. Some people are evil.)

And there's so many other examples.  Let's take Union Carbide in India.  How did they lift up people out of poverty?  Halliburton in Iraq?
