DC has, by code,  its own doubling enhancement for any gun crime, including unlawful possession within 1,000 feet of a school. DC almost never adds that DC  enhancement.
And it is not illegal to carry within 1,000 feet of a school, but to illegally carry (ie not have a license), as well as to commit other actual crimes.

For example if you commit an assault with a firearm,  armed robbery, mugging, or illegally posses or carry or any other firearm crime, DC code is supposed to double it. Racine's office almost never does this for possession or illegal carry since most under 25s illegally in possession are within 1,000' of a DC school, thereby converting the crime to a felony, and for some reason Racine does not want to bring felony charges for the cohort that commits the most gun crime.[/quote]
