Regarding the water/flooding/drainage issues that many Alexandria neighborhoods have faced... whom do you guys think has the best grasp on this issue, its urgency, and getting it under control? Insofar as action and real understanding - not words and studies.
I’d say anyone but silberberg. People are forgetting how disorganized and horrific she was. No true opinions of her own and no leadership. Watch an old council hearing
She was awful and so many 6-1 votes. When you can't get any council members to agree with you on anything, you're probably not the right person for mayor. Cities change and Alexandria will never be the sleepy little town of 1970-although then you wouldn't even go to Old Town unless you wanted to buy some drugs. Wilson has done some horrific things(the apartments going up on S Columbus for one) but at least he has some idea of how to run a city. I think it will be close.
If you think knowing how to run a city spurs a group of 3000 citizens to organize on the common goal of removing you, then you have a strange ide of what it takes to run a city. Name one public figure in the city that had even half that amount of opposition. Hell, James Moran beat up a 10 year old kid in front of the berg and even that didn't produce the outrage that Wilson has.
Oh, please. That crazy Facebook group is not 3000 people organized with the purpose of removing the mayor from office. Half the people on that group (including me) are there for the entertainment value of watching the 30 or so active members froth at the mouth with their MAlxGA conspiracy theories. Many are there because they had interest in the Seminary Road project and never bothered to leave the group as it morphed into what it is now. Say what you will about Wilson, he is super knowledgable about how government works - which was critical during the pandemic as he knew how to get what we needed from Richmond and knew how to move things quickly to allow small businesses flexibility to cope with social distancing requirements. She never could have pulled any of that off because she would not have known how. He is incredibly accessible to residents and communicates about the issues before council in monthly newsletters with a tremendous amount of detail and in responses to emails. calls, and social media responses. Alison was a complete disaster as mayor and she only won because the primary was a three way race that year. She didn't understand anything about how government works then and never bothered to learn while in office. She spent most of her time dithering about inconsequential things and voted no on pretty much everything that she now tries to take credit for as happening during her term - including voting no on funding for building desperately needed schools. I don't always agree with Wilson, but I appreciate how effectively and efficiently he runs things procedurally and that he has the intellectual capacity to reason through tough issues. Her, not so much. He gets my vote.
Atlantis died under Wilson's "leadership". Dude killed an institution. He did nothing for small businesses. Als is on the chopping block as well thansk to him. You drive down King recently? Vacancy through the roof. Again, a gift from old baldy.
