I got a response from Meghan McLaughlin of Fairfax SB on twitter, but not via regular mail. She responded saying that the school board members said I was wrong. I gave details about what was happening. She replied she was mainly focused on maintaining the honors and acceleration, wasn't worried about redoing the classes.
So she said LCPS will continue to offer honors and acceleration? Just that the courses will be reworked?
She is in Fairfax, so this is now third or fourthhand quotes. In fact looking at it, she didn't say I was wrong, but instead "I spoke to a LCPS School Board Member who gave no indication that advanced courses would be removed for next year. I encourage you to contact your board member, and ask for written confirmation. LCPS is also discussing this issue at tomorrow’s School Board Meeting., so tune in" "While a sizable number of FCPS students take Alg 1 in 7th or 8th grade, it’s rare to take it in 6th grade (similar to the small numbers you posted). The macro-level concern for us all is to ensure VDOE proposed changes do not close off pathways for advanced level Math/STEM kids"
