I think it's more meaningful to group how far above or below the median (1190)...if you truly want to objectively group. More than 1 std above median: w&m - 1430 uva - 1410 vt - 1280 Above/equal median: cnu - 1230 gmu - 1220 vmi - 1210 jmu - 1200 umw - 1190 (median) Below median: vcu - 1180 odu - 1110 radford - 1060 longwood - 1060 More than 1 std below median: uva-wise - 1030 norfolk state - 950 vsu - 950
Damn, JMU is barely above the median. All the DCUMers who constantly toss off to that school won't like seeing that.
I median appears to be about 1080, not 1190 as shown. Back in the dark ages when I took the SAT, I think the median was about 940. It was supposed to be set to 1000 back in the 1960s but had been declining over time as a higher percentage of high school students took the test. They re-normed it a couple of times since then, which explains some part of the 140 point or so increase.
The median above was for the average SAT scores for students attending VA state colleges (based on questionable data source), not all VA students who took the SAT. It's also not weighted based on school size, but shouldn't be too far off. If I didn't have to get some actual work done today I'd happily find a better data source and incorporate the weighting.
