Statewide, Black people represent 31 percent of Maryland’s population but only 16 percent of vaccine recipients for whom race has been reported. That disparity has grown wider over the past two months, according to a state analysis. But a Goucher College poll released Monday shows vaccine hesitancy decreasing in recent months, with about 31 percent of White Marylanders and 36 percent of Black state residents wary of being inoculated
Maryland’s governor says Black residents don’t want to get vaccinated. But thousands are seeking shots. By Rachel Chason and Erin Cox https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/prince-georges-vaccine-hogan/2021/03/05/0987c5a8-7832-11eb-9537-496158cc5fd9_story.html
my work is essential and we employ close to 1000 employees, 80% are black. we recently received the email to get the vaccine where they set up a clinic for us. 12% got it. They set up another 6% more got it. That is the realty.
What a lovely anecdote that completely ignores the data and evidence that plenty of Black people in Maryland A. Want the vaccine B. Haven't been able to get appointments
The people I work with had the opportunity to get the vaccine and decided not to. I noticed in the article a lot of the people they talked to are older, many of the people I work with are 25-50
Are you surprised older people are in more of a rush to get the vaccine? I don't know what you are getting at. There is survey data (also cited in the article) talking about how vaccine hesitancy rates among Black people are only slightly higher than White people. A lot more scientific than "the people I work with". Stop making excuses for not giving Black people vaccines.
